Water access points
Every access point on record — 238 of them — with its position in the three formats a radio operator or dispatcher may ask for. Nothing has been filtered out. Records with weak evidence are here too, marked as such, because leaving them out would give you fewer options and no way to know what was missing.
If you are in trouble on the water
This site is reference information. It does not contact anyone, route a call, or track a vessel. Use VHF channel 16 or call 911, and state your own position.
The Coast Guard asks for position as latitude and longitude. Local place names are often unfamiliar to the people coming to get you, so give the numbers.
- “MAYDAY, MAYDAY, MAYDAY”
- “THIS IS” — your vessel name, three times
- Your position — latitude and longitude
- Nature of the trouble
- Assistance needed, and how many people are aboard
- “OVER”, then stay by the radio
How to read the labels
152 of 238 carry a position. The remaining 86 are named but not yet located, and are listed anyway so you can see where the gaps are.
13 records mention a closure or restriction in their own text. Those are flagged in place rather than removed. A ramp being closed for renovation is something you want to know before you tow a boat to it.
Where the access points are
Every point below is one this project has a recorded position for. There are 152 of them across 17 waterways. Hover or tap a dot for its name.
- 133 Boat ramps
- 14 Landmarks
- 5 Fishing holes
Scan to open this launch point on your phone. Works without an account and without the app.
These are road directions to the launch point. They are not a route on the water. Nothing here accounts for depth, shoaling, tides, obstructions or closures once you are off the ramp, and it must not be used for navigation afloat.
86 further access points are listed on this page but are not on the map. They are recorded by name, waterway and county but have no verified coordinates yet, and they are left off rather than placed approximately. A dot in roughly the right place is worse than no dot, because somebody will navigate to it.
The clustering is real and not a rendering artefact. Points appear where the field work has happened, which so far is the Big Bend. The build map shows the same shape from the other direction.
